Bay Area Faces Two-Week Heat Advisory with Temperatures Reaching 39°C
US · Published Oct 2, 2026
• The San Francisco Bay Area is experiencing an unusual heatwave, with a National Weather Service (NWS) heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, to 10 p.m. on Sunday, October
• Temperatures are expected to range from 35°C to 39°C (95°F to 103°F) in inland areas, with overnight lows remaining high at 20°C to 24°C (68°F to 75°F) in elevated regions. This prolonged heatwave is forecasted to last through mid-October, with above-normal temperatures persisting due to a high-pressure system influenced by typhoons in the western Pacific. The advisory covers a wide area, including the East Bay, San Francisco Bay shoreline, Santa Clara Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains, and parts of Monterey and San Benito counties.

Impact & Risks

The heat poses significant health risks, particularly for individuals without access to cooling or hydration. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions are at higher risk. The warm overnight temperatures exacerbate the situation by preventing the body from recovering. The heatwave coincides with major events like the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival and Fleet Week, which are expected to draw large crowds to outdoor venues, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
